Ecosystem Health and Resilience Series: Wildfire Ready on Red Flag Days Hike

  • Chautauqua Ranger Cottage (map)

What: Wildfire danger has always been a part of living in Colorado, more so in the last decade.    This makes it more important than ever for residents and recreationists to understand fire behavior and know how to stay safe.

Join retired Ranger Maria to learn how weather, fuels, and human activity come together to shape wildfire behavior on Red Flag days. You'll find out what a fire warning actually means, what to do if you spot fire or smoke, and how to stay safe while living or recreating in the wildland-urban interface.

Through real-world examples, you'll build the skills to make smart, confident decisions on and off the trail. This program also connects you with ways to get involved through Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) community projects, so you can put what you learn into action.

Whether you're a longtime Boulder resident or new to recreating in open space, you'll leave with practical knowledge you can use right away - and a better sense of how you can help protect the places you love.
