Echoes of the Past: Hiking the Roots of Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks

  • Chatauqua Ranger Cottage (map)

What: Join us for a guided hike to Woods Quarry and along the scenic Enchanted Mesa Trail as we uncover the stories behind Boulder’s iconic landscape. Along the way, we’ll explore the late 19th-century roots of Boulder’s Chautauqua and Mountain Parks system, discover how civic visionaries helped preserve these open spaces, and learn about the sandstone legacy of Woods Quarry. This moderate hike blends natural beauty with a rich historical journey through the origins of one of Colorado’s first public parklands. Bring layers appropriate for the weather, shoes with good tread, and water. This all-levels hike is open to everyone.
