What: Come join us at Rabbit Mountain during peak spring bloom to learn about the identities, ecology and human uses of native plants along the trail. This field trip is for beginners as well as those with more knowledge. The field trip will be taught by Barbara Fahey, founder of CSU’s Native Plant Master Program.
This is an ideal hike for people new to our area or new to wildflowers to learn some of our common spring prairie-foothills wildflowers. We will also learn about how weather and our changing climate affects the timing of flowers here and how it varies by habitat.
We will hike along main trail from the trailhead to Eagle wind trail. Whole trail round trip is about 3 miles, with about 250’ elevation gain, so it is moderate in difficulty. Trail can be rocky and uneven in places, but with nice scenic views and a broad range of forest and grassland habitats. Rabbit Mountain is one of our largest and most diverse natural areas, and a great place to learn new plants. Over 500 species have been documented in the area!
